Senior Director (INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL COUNSEL)

The employer is from Integration - Legal affairs sector. Advise on legal aspects of Alibaba Group’s international expansion of current and proposed new offerings, particularly in areas of e-commerce, cross border trade, logistics and payments. Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings. Research local laws and regulations in South East Asia jurisdictions and manage outside counsel. Provide advice on cross border logistics, import/export and payment acceptance models and issues Negotiate, draft and review contracts and commercial agreements. Support local litigation, employment, IP and comp sec requirements as needed with guidance from group functional legal teams. Support commercial cooperation aspects of pending M&A matters as well as post-closing integration of acquired entities and businesses. Recruit, mentor and manage a legal team. Legal license from a relevant jurisdiction. 12-15 years of post-qualification experience, both at a leading law firm and in-house. Experience with e-commerce and/or cross border trade transactions (import/export, logistics, payments etc) preferred. English and Chinese language proficiency (i.e. ability to hold business meetings in Chinese, and reading and writing in Chinese). Experience in recruiting, mentoring and managing a legal team. Experience implementing legal operations and legal tools. Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure. Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training. High integrity and desire to collaborate with others. Open to frequent international travel, including within the South East Asia region and also to Hangzhou, China.
